With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Jaguars select....
Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
The Jaguars are the true wildcard in this draft as they can go with just about any position. Most draft experts at the present time are projecting a pass rusher at pick number two; however with the recent changes in the front office and the lack of production from former 1st round pick Blaine Gabbert, selecting a QB would make the most sense in this scenario. With a promising group of receivers in Blackmon, Shorts, and Marcedes Lewis (along with a great receiving running back in MJD) it would become difficult to justify not taking a QB that would help them reach their potential.
Why Geno Smith? Geno has clearly been head and shoulders above the QB competition in this year's draft due in part to his performances (2012: 42 TDs/ 6 INTs, 2011: 31 TDs/ 7 INTs) over his college career and his accuracy in the intermediate and short routes. Most of the negative concerns about Geno Smith have been blown out of proportion during this offseason (such as the pro-style offense, arm strength, and decision making concerns). The only two negatives that concern me is his footwork in the pocket and his struggles against a consistent pass rush (which has been the vein of Blaine Gabbert's existence in the NFL). Ultimately, I think that Smith has the qualities of a dedicated team leader that would prevent those two weaknesses from slowing down his success in the NFL.
