Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones, perhaps the top free agent signing at this stage, is comfortable adding pressure to his teammates, as well as himself, when thinking about 2013. When asked by Lance McAlister on 700 WLW's Sports Talk if the Bengals can "take the next step" this year, Jones is confident they will (transcribed by SportsRadioInterviews.com).
"I think we can, and I think we will. I ain't gonna say I think we can, I think we will. I would like to put the pressure on us, because we have a lot of talented young guys in our group and a complete football team."
Jones, who signed a three-year deal earlier this week, is grateful for the Bengals giving him a shot, even helping him grow into the player he has become.
"It's been great. I got here and, first and foremost, Coach Lewis and the Brown family and [the coaching staff] did a great job slowing things down for me and making me realize what the big picture is. Not that I didn't know, but it really helped me out a lot to have guys that you can call on at any time if you're down and people that you can talk to about anything."
While complete details of his contract are relatively unknown, he's scheduled to earn $750,000 in 2013, followed by $1.2 million in 2014 and $1.35 million in 2015.
