Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison is visiting the Bengals on Thursday, according to sources.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison is visiting the Bengals on Thursday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy, citing a source close to the situation.

Harrison is the third linebacker to visit the Bengals in the last three days. They have also host Karlos Dansby as well as Akeem Jordan. Harrison, known for his vicious hits that often get him fined and for being outspoken, seems to want a chance to play against the Steelers twice a season after they let him go once free agency began.

Harrison, an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2002, has spent his entire career with the Steelers to this point. He has made 617 tackles, 64 sacks, one safety and has intercepted five passes over the last 10 years and has been one of the top performers in the Steelers' top-notch defense year in and year out.

The Bengals are in need of a linebacker. They re-signed Rey Maualuga and have said that they plan to keep him at the middle linebacker position. They have Vontaze Burfict, who excelled at WILL in 2012, but they still need someone to play at SAM, where Manny Lawson, now a member of the Buffalo Bills, played the last two years. Harrison could be a good short-term fit for the Bengals at SAM despite the fact he has played in a 3-4 defense with the Steelers.
