This isn't the first time that the Bengal have met with Mathieu. The team held a private workout with Mathieu on March 22 and they also spoke with him at the NFL Combine. Mathieu is one of the more intriguing prospects in this year's draft class as his talent and potential are unmistakable. However, Mathieu missed the entire 2012 season after he was kicked off LSU's team for reportedly failing multiple drug tests. According to recent reports, Mathieu failed 10 drug tests while at the SEC school.
Had he kept his head on straight during college, Mathieu would likely be the top defensive back in the draft and could have been a top-five pick. However, many analysts believe that selecting Mathieu with anything higher than a fourth-round pick would be on unnecessary risk.
This could either be a sign that the Bengals are hoping to grab Mathieu with one of their picks in the first few rounds, or this could be nothing more than a team exercising due diligence on a talented player with a lot of question marks.
