The Cincinnati Bengals held a private workout with offensive tackle Reid Fragel on Monday, according to Pro Football Talk. Fragel also reportedly visited with the Bengals last month. Cincinnati could be in the market for an offensive tackle when the first round of the 2013 NFL draft arrives on Thursday, provided Andre Smith remains unsigned.
Fragel is currently flying under the radar a bit, but could blossom into a solid NFL contributor. Originally a converted tight end out of OSU, Fragel stands very tall at 6'8" but has good weight to pair with his height at 308 pounds. After missing the senior bowl with an undisclosed injury, he had a great combine showing, which gave him a small boost heading into the draft. The biggest concern with Fragel is his inexperience. He only played one season at tackle and often displayed messy footwork and poor technique, both of which can be corrected with proper coaching.
Mocking the draft ranks Fragel No. 10 among all offensive tackles and No. 110 overall. ESPN ranks Fragel No. 14 while NFL.com lists him No. 9.
Fragel has also visited with the New England Patriots, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears. Reportedly heavy interest exists from Baltimore as well.
