With the number one pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have selected Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher. The Chiefs had a surprisingly loaded roster in 2012, sending five players to the Pro Bowl despite their 2-14 record, but with disgruntled left tackle Brandon Albert seeking a trade to the Miami Dolphins, offensive tackle was a definite need. The top two players at the position were Fisher and fellow left tackle Luke Joeckel, but the Chiefs opted for the smaller school prospect.
The Chiefs allowed the clock to run down even though they had their player in mind, hoping for a last-minute trade partner, but eventually turned in their card and took Fisher to protect new quarterback Alex Smith's blindside.
