With the number seven pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals have selected North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper. The Cardinals were already set at offensive tackle, but needed an added presence on the interior of their line to protect new quarterback and investment Carson Palmer. Consequently, the Cardinals selected the best pass protecting guard in the draft in Cooper, who is remarkably athletic for his size. The Cardinals play in a division with two premier defenses, and their new guard will help them as they try to regain their spot atop the NFC West.
So far, no quarterbacks have been taken, with Cooper marking the fourth offensive lineman being selected. This draft was advertised as an unconventional one, and it has not disappointed so far.
