With the number thirty-nine pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the New York Jets have selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. Once regarded as the potential number one pick in the entire 2013 draft, Smith fell all the way out of the first round, watching helplessly from the green room at the Radio City Music Hall. Smith was the second quarterback taken, after E.J. Manuel, and now enters a unique situation with the Jets.
New York has a crowded roster at the quarterback position, with incumbent Mark Sanchez and the always controversial Tim Tebow manning the backup spot, so at the moment it is unclear whether or not Smith will be the starter. For now, however, he is probably just happy to have found a home in the NFL. His draft day nightmare is finally over.
