At first, I was scratching my head with everyone else. Why did we not take Arthur Brown who some had mocked to our first round pick? He was a steal late in the 2nd. Or Khaseem Greene. Or anyone of the other remaining LBs. Why did we wait so late?
The answer is the cooks in the kitchen knew the ingredients they needed. The Bengals only utilize 2 LBs on most of their plays. Maybe due to necessity, maybe not. Lawson only appeared in a quarter of the plays last year. Howard was injured. Moch was migraine prone.
It is obvious that the Bengals avoided drafting a LB because it was no longer a need position. With the number of guys we have at LB - there was no way a guy was going to beat out Harrison for that spot vacated by Lawson. And if they resign Howard, I can see Burfict shifting over to MLB and Maualuga/Harrison at SLB. They also have Joiner and Maybin and Moch to show their potential. With Rey and Lamur backing up.
There were just too many guys already at the position. And I think our defense is changing from a 4-3-4 to a 4-2-5.
