2013 NFL Free Agency: Cleveland Browns Agree To One-Year Deal With Wide Receiver David Nelson

Al Bello

The Cleveland Browns continued their roster overhaul on Monday by signing former Buffalo Bills wide receiver, David Nelson.

Since Jimmy Haslam's takeover of the Cleveland Browns franchise last fall, it set forth a series of moves to completely change the complexion of the team. From installing a group of new coaches that includes names like Ray Horton and Norv Turner, to putting together a revamped roster, the Browns have been quite busy over the past few months. Add wide receiver David Nelson to the mix of new faces on the Browns.

Before getting hurt in the opening week of the 2012 season, Nelson had appeared to be on track to a solid NFL career with the Buffalo Bills. In 2011, Nelson had 61 catches for 658 yards and five touchdowns. At 6'5" and 200 pounds, Nelson was a good red zone target opposite the big-play Stevie Johnson. Unfortunately for Nelson, the Bills were in rebuild mode themselves and didn't have the recovering Nelson in their plans. I made a case for him to be a target for the Bengals back in late February, but nothing ever materialized there.

The Browns have been looking for a legitimate wide receiver threat since the flash-in-the-pan season they got from Braylon Edwards back in 2007. Nelson joins exciting second-year Cleveland wide receivers Travis Benjamin and Josh Gordon.
