This is probably the biggest lull in the football year. That time between when the draft ends and training camp begins. Its also the most important in terms of the playoffs next year as far as the playoffs are concerned. Playoff games are won and lost in the offseason when players practice, learn, and work out.
But there is something for fans to look forward to between now and training camp.
The long term signings of 3 guys - Michael Johnson, Carlos Dunlap, and Geno Atkins. In fact, this is probably going to be the most crucial decision that will be made this year and probably for the next 2 or 3 years. This is what could take us to dynasty level or push us back down into obscurity.
Do we keep all 3? We are overloaded on the DL to the point that we can't even start early round picks. Not to mention that guys like Peko, Geathers, and Gilberry are taking up roster spots and signed long term. Even a guy like DeQuin Evans might be the solution. Or a Brandon Joiner. Or a Moch who is converting over from LB. Will Hunt be a DE or DT?
So lets open up the discussion - do you think we should keep all 3? Do you think we should only keep 2 - if so, which 2? Obviously no one is saying to dump Atkins - its a no brainer that we keep him. But what about between Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson? Is it even financially feasible to keep all 3 without being unable to sign Green/Dalton/Gresham?
