Position coaches are like kids at Christmas following the NFL draft, especially when it's their position that was heavily addressed. One can only imagine Hue Jackson sliding down the handcrafted stair railing made of oak and angling his body for the eventual sendoff from the volute. "Oh the Giovani Bernard. I always wanted one. Thanks, Marvin!"
Jackson isn't just happy. He's giddy.
"I think we have a chance to be really better," Jackson told Bengals.com. "I think we've improved. It's going to be fun. I'm extremely happy."
The Rex Burkhead isn't the first overall pick under the tree. He won't be the lead-in discussion when comparing gifts with friends. Burkhead is the practical gift that you'll still use often. Like a pair of pants.
"I was pleasantly surprised," Jackson said of Burkhead. "Not that I didn't know he had ability, but watching him in person, you get to see a guy in a whole different light. He has extremely quick feet, has really good hands, is very smart, and catches on extremely well. He's just another good player for our room. There's competition all over the backfield and that's what makes it fun and that you know you've got a chance to be pretty good."
Jackson is a happy man.
