Jaleel Gipson is a former high school student at Farmerville, a town and parish seat of Union Parish, Louisiana. During football practice last Thursday, Gipson suffered a severe neck injury, resulting in a fractured vertebrae. The 17-year old junior couldn't breathe on his own and last weekend, doctors declared him brain dead, "placed on life support until his organs" were donated on Monday.
Writes Matt Vines from TheNewStar.com:
Gipson was injured Thursday at spring football practice during a tackling drill. Gipson was the ball carrier, and (school principal David) Gray said the experienced fullback and the tackler used correct technique, according to the coaching staff.
Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, a Louisiana man through and through, will pick up the funeral tab.
What else can you say? Grief, sadness, helped out a little by a classy community guy.
