I know some fans will think that I am crazy but if one is not traded before the end of this coming season we will lose one and get nothing in return for a very good player. Defensive ends who can rush the passer are a premium position in the NFL and the BENGALS have two very good ones who will both be FA after this coming season. MJ got the tag at a little over 11 million and DUNLAP is in the last year of his rookie deal. I just don't see MIKE BROWN investing the money it would take to sign and keep MJ, ATKINS and DUNLAP when other teams will come with their checkbooks open to sign one.
I did not understand why the team gave ROBERT GEATHERS a contract when DUNLAP was in his final year and the team really needed to know if they have a starter or a specialist to only be played on third down. When the BENGALS drafted MARGUS HUNT in the second round it made me think that they know it's going to be almost impossible to keep both of these young talents.
I prefer to keep DUNLAP if indeed the BENGALS will be forced to let one walk. I just don't see how it's possible to be able to pay all three because ATKINS is going to break the bank with his deal when he gets a new deal whenever that is. The longer it takes to re-up ATKINS the more it's going to cost. There are only a couple of players in the league that can do what ATKINS does from his DT position. Both DUNLAP and JOHNSON both benefit greatly from his play up the middle.I know the BENGALS are not going to trade one during the season because we could have the best defensive line in the NFL and hopefully ride our defense on a deep playoff run in 2013. The Giants rode their defensive line all the way to the SB a few years back and ours could be better this season.
I know that some readers hope/believe that MJ will get a new deal but I would be shocked if that happens. You take in GEATHERS new contract and the high selection of HUNT who could be better than both DUNLAP and MJ, the BENGALS are preparing their defense for the lost of JOHNSON or DUNLAP.
