While driving home during another steamy Cincinnati night from Dayton, Lance McAlister on 700 WLW's Sports Talk posed an interesting topic. He began compiling a post Big Red Machine roster of starters at each position for the Cincinnati Reds, listing the best players at each position in the years since the Big Red Machine. For example, Eric Davis was the best center fielder, Joey Votto at first, Brandon Phillips at second, Barry Larkin at short, and Chris Sabo at third, so forth and so on.
Naturally, with any good topic idea, I'm stealing the idea and being a Bengals-specific site, molding it into something more Bengals specific.
So here's what we're doing.
We're going to go through each position and pick the best player since the Cincinnati Bengals last appeared in the Super Bowl.
We're going to do it position per post, so don't write up your line-up here.
I'll give you my pick and then you'll give us yours (via a poll and through the discussions). At the end, we'll do a final post that announces the Bengals post Super Bowl roster, which is essentially the best players in the past 25 years.
The only criteria we're applying is that a player had to have at least started and players that started the final Super Bowl Cincinnati played in are ineligible. We'll open with a handful of positions on Thursday and go from there.
