Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis hooked up with the Cincinnati Enquirer for a chat on Thursday with readers and Bengals fans. It's mostly the same coaches-speak that you hear during your typical press conferences, but there were some nuggets of interest.
Can we expect an expanded role out of Emmanuel Lamur?
Emmanuel will have a role in the defense. He was a productive player for us last season and had a good spring. He'll have a chance to earn an opportunity.
How Marvin Jones has looked and the No. 2 wide receiver.
Yes, Marvin did a good job of really emerging as a young player. Right now, I really can't tell you who will be starting opposite A.J. if we are in a two WR set whether that is Mo Sanu, Marvin or Brandon Tate.
How Onterio McCalebb has done since moving from running back to cornerback.
he's worked at it and made a transition from something he hasn't done in a couple years. The footwork is something he has worked hard at it. He has the one thing though we can't coach which is speed to go and get the football.
On Shawn Williams.
Shawn had a really productive spring for us. He showed a lot of awareness and ability to know what we are doing. We'll have a lot of competition between Iloka, Miles and Mays.
On Sean Porter.
Sean has shown the athleticism that led us to draft him. He has been able to pick things up defensively. We feel like he will be able to help in some situations as well as special teams.
On J.K. Schaffer.
Since acquiring J.K. he has done a good job of learning what we're doing. I'm excited about what he can show during the preseason and contend for a roster spot.
On Dan Herron
Dan has taken advantage of every opportunity he had when he was brought to the roster. He has had a strong showing all spring and I'm excited for the preseason.
