Pro Football Talk "polled a panel of NFL media types and asked them" for help compiling a list of the top 100 players in the NFL. They released portions of their top-100 in segments throughout the offseason, finally releasing the top players according to their "media types". Two Bengals made their list (any guesses?) lead by Geno Atkins at No. 9. and A.J. Green at No. 15.
That's comparable among other non-player polled rankings to determine the top 100 players in the NFL.
Pete Prisco with CBSSports.com also undertook a top-100 ranking, adding Michael Johnson at No. 76, A.J. Green at No. 14 and Geno Atkins at No. 7. Pro Football Focus, using their grading scales, ranked Atkins as high as No. 3, yet dropping A.J. Green to No 41 while including Reggie Nelson at No. 99.
The NFL Network, on the other hand, was a vote among players that participated (roughly a quarter of the entire league). Those rankings listed A.J. Green at No. 16 while Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins surprisingly dropped at No. 36. It would seem that the only group of people that don't value Atkins as highly as the media are the players themselves -- which means that they're idiots.
