Four things to know for the Bengals this week

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

There's a couple of things to be aware of this week as the team resumes practice on Wednesday.

THE WALKING WOUNDED RETURN?

A question mark could be answered once practice resumes on Wednesday. It was mentioned last week that wide receiver A.J. Green could make his return during Wednesday's session. If he, or any of the other injured players practice on Wednesday, Lewis said that they'll have an opportunity to play this Saturday.

TWO PRACTICES REMAINING FOR TRAINING CAMP

The Bengals penultimate training camp session is scheduled to roll on Wednesday at 3 p.m on the team's practice field. The team will "break camp" on Thursday following a two-hour practice that's scheduled to start at 11 a.m, marking the conclusion of training camp this year.

Since the Bengals stayed home for training camp, the whole "break camp" term is a bit dated. When they used Georgetown's campus, the team would pack their gear and shuttle back to Cincinnati. Sometimes the process was done during a player's day off, as not to impact preseason practice.

BACKUPS TO GET A SHOT AT STARTERS?

Head coach Marvin Lewis told the local press that several backup players will get an opportunity to play earlier against the Tennessee Titans. We imagine that this includes players like fullback John Conner, wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, and maybe even linebacker J.K. Schaffer, who had a handful of first quarter snaps against the Falcons first-team offense.

Lewis explained the team's strength coach Chip Morton, during the second episode of Hard Knocks, the process for players to make the team. Great work during practice will lead to increased snaps in the preseason, which leads to an opportunity to make the 53-man roster.

SCHEDULE FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK

Once they break camp on Thursday, the Bengals will have a walkthrough practice on Friday leading to Saturday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans. Players will have the day off on Sunday before heading to Springboro High School for a practice open to the public that starts at 5:40 p.m.
