In ten days the Bengals Preseason games will be over - time for the regular season - so how did they do this offseason?
Draft - Good - Added a TE and RB to help the offense - plus some other guys - hopefully a few other guys will contribute - maybe the SS?
Free Agency - Good - Harrison - Adam Jones resigned - tried some guys like Maybin - worth a shot. Got Dunlap redone.
Training Camp - Good - Offense and Defense progressing well - no issues, no major injuries - yeah Baby Hawk might be out six weeks - and some draft picks might go on IR - if that's the biggest issue that is great news. AJ didn't practice for a few weeks - probably a good thing
So why the incomplete?
GENO ATKINS - they've got to sign him to an extension - signing him now makes sense for both sides - and gives the Bengals flexibility with the Franchise Tag the next few years. They need to get it done before the season .-
ANDREW WHITWORTH - Left Tackle has not played in preseason or much in camp - not as big as Geno - but would be nice to have him at Left Tackle this year
Sign Geno and Whitworth Healthy - A for the offseason - without C+
Now for the time machine and AD
Let's all go back two years - the gloomiest of offseasons - Dalton considered about the 33rd or 34th QB in the league - Cincy considered solid in the 30's in terms of team rankings - let's face it - if Bengals went 6-10 that year and 9-7 the next year they would be a "team on the rise" and Dalton "progressing" - He took the team to the playoffs two years in a row - he won at TCU (Horned Frogs?) - I don't buy off on the Dalton criticisms - maybe not as much flash (think RG III - fun to watch - but after the Bengals D repeatedly hit him did it surprise you he blew out his knee later in the season) - but a Dalton a winner and long term QB for Cincy for next 5-10 years. As a two year starter - I give Dalton an A- Ok - I feel better now.
Expectations have changed - need a playoff win now - that'a good thing
Did I bring up the Geno thing?
