The curiosity bug bit me today when I was thinking about the players we will be releasing. And then a question popped in my head. It seems every year we claim somebody that another team cut or make a trade. Is there any scenario where this might happen this year? Yes we are deeper this year than any year I can remember. But does that necessarily mean we can't upgrade somewhere? Maybe there is a safety somewhere that will be dangled as trade bait. We have plenty of players to trade if we can convince a team it is worth the trade and that they won't be able to just sit and wait for players to get released. Perhaps somebody we covet gets cut? I'm not particularly interested in bringing in somebody new that has to learn our system. But it seems it happens every year. And to put on the blinders and pretend that we are too deep to upgrade with other teams castaways would be foolish. I'm sure the scouting department has more than a few ideas they are mulling around and players they are watching/coveting. But what positions should we be open too tinkering with? Back-up QB? Neither Johnson nor Skelton have me feeling too confident right now. They both played pretty well in the first preseason game, but they haven't exactly impressed the coaches in practice and the Titans games revealed some concerning flaws and probably more accurately displayed what we can expect from each of them. How about safety? Iloka just broke his hand pimp slapping a motha for getting all up in his grill. And are any of us ready to play the Taylor Mays lottery? We all seem to hope every year that he's coming around, but if you watched Hard Knocks last night you can see he still can't seem to consistently play up to his potential. Heck even LB could be a possibility right? I know many of you are now throwing their arms up, cursing my stupidity and lack of sense. But just because we have 12 LBs on the roster(11 now actually). Does it mean we can't upgrade. Maybe somebody is releasing a LB who just happens to be better than 6 of our current applicants? I'm not saying we should we should go this route. I'm not saying we shouldn't. But I'm curious. What do you all think?
