Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Andre Smith suffered a second quarter knee injury against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Marvin Lewis told reporters after that game that he should be ready for the regular season opener in Chicago, but further scans were planned to make sure.
Sunday's MRI didn't reveal any damage and it appears that the Bengals "dodged a bullet".
He was walking around smiling after the game and head coach Marvin Lewis said he'd be back for the Sept. 8 opener, but he'll most likely get shelved this week.
Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer added on Sunday:
Smith, however, appeared to be fine in the locker room after the game; he was walking normally and smiling.
With Andrew Whitworth's recovery taking time (even generating concerns that he might not be ready), it would have been bad news if Cincinnati went into their regular season opener in Chicago without both of their starting offensive tackles.
