The Cincinnati Bengals will place defensive tackle Larry Black on Injured Reserve Wednesday, according to Bengals.com. It was known that Black, who suffered a dislocated ankle last month during practice, would miss the entire season. The formality will give Cincinnati another spot on the roster, which will drop to 89 once Black is officially placed on IR. This could be a prelude to another signing, such as another "body" with Andrew Hawkins expected to miss time.
Black signed with the Bengals as a college free agent following the 2013 NFL draft. The defensive tackle out of Indiana played 48 games in college, generating 127 tackles, eight quarterback sacks, 27.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, four passes broken up and even one blocked field goal.
With Geno Atkins, Domata Peko, Devon Still, and Brandon Thompson ahead of Black on the team's defensive tackle roster, Black was an ideal practice squad candidate looking to replace any of the aforementioned players when the opportunity presented itself. Black will return next season with the Bengals to try it all again.
