See PFF's "About" page for more information on their grading system.
Note: Those with PFF subscriptions may have noticed that the grades posted initially frequently change later in the week (presumably after the All-22 video footage becomes available, giving the analysts a better look). With that in mind, here are notable modifications to Week 1's initial grades:
-Kevin Zeitler (+3.8) became the highest grade-earner over Andre (who stayed at +3.5)
-Michael Johnson (+3.1) became the highest grade-earner over Dunlap (+3.0)
-James Harrison got bumped from +0.7 to +1.7.
-Rey Maualuga got dropped into a tie with Peko for worst grade on defense (-2.7)
Now, on to Week 2!
Best: Andrew Whitworth (+4.6; +4.1 run block)
Other good grades: Clint Boling (+4.1), Kevin Zeitler (+2.1, +2.2 run block), Giovani Bernard (+1.8), Alex Smith (+1.2), Andre Smith (+1.1), Marvin Jones (+0.9), Anthony Collins (+0.9)
Worst: Jermaine Gresham (-4.0; -2.4 run block, -1.6 penalty)
Other bad grades: Andy Dalton (-1.9), A.J. Green (-1.5)
Best: Michael Johnson (+5.4)
Other good grades: Terence Newman (+2.1), Leon Hall (+1.6), Vontaze Burfict (+1.1), Geno Atkins (+0.9)
Worst: Carlos Dunlap (-2.6; -1.7 pass rush, -0.8 penalty)
Other bad grades: Rey Maualuga (-1.4; +1.2 run defense; -2.6 pass coverage), Robert Geathers (-1.0; just 8 snaps), Adam Jones (-1.0)
Other performances of note:
-It stings a bit to see Gresham with the lowest grade despite his high-effort contributions in the passing game (for which he received +0.9), but even with his -2.4 run block grade, the offense collectively graded +7.2, topping their highest single-game run block grade from 2012 (+7.0 week 12 vs. Raiders)
-Before this game, Whitworth's highest run block grade in the past two years was +2.1 in 2010 week 16. He didn't exceed +1.1 last year. Maybe he should have knee surgery more often?
-The lowest grade Geno received last year was +1.0 in Week 1.
-James Harrison graded -0.6 in 14 snaps against his old team.
