Now that Hue Jackson is the Bengals’ Offensive Coordinator, what changes can we expect?
One possibility that I’d like to suggest is signing Darren McFadden as a Bengal.
Darren McFadden is an unrestricted free agent this year.
He is very talented, and has excelled in Hue’s offense before.
His two best seasons came under Hue Jackson.
2010 when Hue was Oakland’s OC, DMC had the only 1000 yard rushing game of his career. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry, and topped 1,500 total yards.
2011 when Hue was Oakland’s head coach, DMC had an even better year before injury ended his season. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry, and averaged over 100 total yards per game.
McFadden is very injury prone, and has struggled the last 2 seasons without Hue (averaging about 2 yards per carry LESS per carry). These 2 factors could make McFadden a VERY CHEAP addition to the Bengals.
As far as McFadden’s health, we have BJGE and Gio already, so McFadden would not be expected to carry a heavy load. Being limited to 5~10 rushes per game could enable DMC to play a whole season.
Like Gio, McFadden can also run and catch. I think this is a good thing, because it means that we wouldn’t be prone to over-work Gio to the point of wearing him down. Gio is only 22 years old. He had 226 touches this year, and seemed to wear down late (under 2.0 ypc over his final 3 games).
