I wish I could share the same optimism on hue, I guess it’s not hue I’m worried about as much as the teams ability to win close games now. I am a bigger fan than most people when it comes to Marvin, I suppose I’m deathly afraid of the team falling back to the pre-Palmer era. When the season lasted all but three games for me, opening day of the season feeling optimistic that Neil odonnel (not sure how to even spell his name anymore), Scott Mitchell, or Gus ferrote can lead us to the promise land. That’s not even counting akili or Blake, then would come week two and feeling like, ok we lost the first week it’s a long season. Next would come week three and most seasons the end of the year, at least now we typically have the entire season to feel hopeful.
I have a feeling most of us that kill Marvin on here have started watching the bengals since The 05 season and have no idea what it was like during the 90’s. I understand the 0-5 playoff record, but understand if Palmer doesn’t tear his knee to shreds against the steelers who knows how far we may have made it. The loss to the jets hurt but they were one of the hottest teams in the nfl at that time. Then came two straight to the texans who I believe we’re just a flat out better team. This was the year that hurt the worst without a question, no excuses we were the better football team.
What I’m saying is one of the biggest knocks on Marvin is his decision making on timeouts, challenges, etc. during close games. Well with the format that hue is going to install I have a feeling we aren’t going to be blowing many teams out with pounding the ball. Now mix in a new d cord that may be very timid in his play calling, feeling to anxious to take chances cause he may feel this is his one and only shot at making a name for himself. He may not have the confidence to dial up a blitz on 3rd and 7 with a minute and a half to go and the other teams on the go ahead drive cause hue ran the ball three straight times on our last drive instead of putting the opponent away by getting a first down. So maybe some of you actually get your wish and we go 4-12 3-13 next year (which to my disgust I have read some of us hate Marvin that much that they actually are hoping the bengals tank next season). We end up firing Marvin, promote Hue to hc and trade a first and second rd pick to Arizona for Palmer. Next thing we know we end up back in the 90’s watching the first three games of the season. Nnnnooooooo
So I'm asking now who do we believe will be the best at coaching their respective position is it Marvin as the hc, Hue as the OC, Paul as the DC, or zim as min new hc.
