I know this is hard to stomach after the most recent postseason debacle but it's true. He has shown he has the talent and while he still was inconsistent this year he showed improvement. I was in an uproar yesterday and I had said maybe we should draft a qb. The truth is this comes down to Marvin he is now 0-5 in playoffs and his team for whatever reason doesn't show up for the big games. Fire Marvin and promote Zim to HC. Now back to Dalton I know Andy Dalton is no Peyton Manning but the facts are his stats are very similar and if you recall it took 3 seasons for manning to get over the playoff hump. Dalton has done what you'd expect a 3rd quarterback to do which is improve statistically in every category besides INT. He has broken records Palmer set in place that I would have never imagined him doing when drafted 3 years ago. Does he make throws that have me screaming WTF at my TV? Yes he does, the one thing Dalton lacks is consistency and that comes with age. Don't misunderstand me I'm not defending Dalton at all for his horrific post season numbers. I just believe we need to give him one more year. It's the final year of his contract and I really don't see any better options in the draft unless we trade a kings ransom to move up. The reason this team is so good is because they have continued to get value at their position in the draft. Give Dalton one more year and instead of getting a QB improve the CB position and draft a D-lineman to fill M. Johnson's spot. Next year if Dalton still doesn't get it done then trade up and draft a QB. Bringing in another QB this offseason is not the right move. Andy has the weight of Cincinnati on his shoulders and I think it would destroy him mentally to go out and draft a sub par QB for "competition" I.E. Mark Sanchez. For those saying Tahj is the answer in the draft I really don't think so unless we can get him in the second or third he's not a first round talent. I think Jay Gruden leaving will be a blessing in disguise. He is a very good talent evaluater but his play calls have been abysmal and look no further then yesterdays game. We got down 4 and instead of continuing with the balanced attack that worked in the first half or throwing some screens to combat our awful O-line performance coupled by the fact they were blitzing all day he continued to throw down field. Where were the check downs? I'm sorry but I think at the very least give Andy the benefit of the doubt for one more year, hopefully Hue Jackson will be the offense coordinator. Hell just look what he did with Oakland to give them a top ten offense with Jason Campbell and McFadden and no name receivers.
Look at these stats from big time QB's in the post season and tell me the difference between them and Dalton who statically is just as good in his first three seasons if not better.
Drew Brees - 3 playoff games, 1-2 record, and it took him till his 6th season (5th as a starter) in the NFL to win his first playoff game.
Jay Cutler - Has never been in the playoffs
