Terence Newman offers support for Mike Zimmer

Gregory Shamus

Mike Zimmer has been Terence Newman's defensive coordinator for six seasons in the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Terence Newman has known defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for a long time.

Drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, it was Zimmer who was Newman's defensive coordinator for four seasons (2003 through 2006). When Newman joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012, at the behest of his former defensive coordinator, he was reunited with Zimmer. In all, the two have spent six seasons together as player and defensive coordinator.

While congratulating Jay Gruden becoming the newest head coach for the Washington Redskins -- the seventh for Daniel Snyder in 14 seasons -- Newman went on to praise Mike Zimmer.
