Andy Dalton will get another chance to prove himself next season, but the Bengals will no doubt bring in some competition as an insurance policy. The free agency market looks pretty cloudy for QBs and I would be willing to bet that we don’t go that route. Most of us agree that the Bengals are not in a position to trade up in the draft as they haven’t done so in nearly two decades. We also know that Mike Brown has a hard on for strong arm, big body quarterbacks. One prospective quarterback entering the 2014 draft that fits that profile to a tee is Cornell’s Jeff Matthews. At 6-4, 224lbs, Matthew’s is a “men among boys” compared to most other QB’s. He’s a smart kid and has a rocket arm. He’s a prospect that I hope the Bengals take a look at, and someone that they would be able to pick up in the later rounds of the draft. I think it would be a great fit, as he could sit and develop while AD plays for his life in the NFL next year.
