2014 NFL Free Agency: 49ers Releasing Cornerback Carlos Rogers

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Another big-named player will hit the free agent market, as the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly set to release veteran cornerback, Carlos Rogers.

The secondary positions on the open market will get another big name added to it tomorrow. According to Josina Anderson os ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers are getting set to release veteran cornerback, Carlos Rogers.

Rogers, a ten-year veteran at 32 years old, will test the open market to see if he can get anywhere near his 2014 $6.25 million base salary. After an outstanding 2011 campaign on a one-year deal with San Francisco, Rogers signed a four-year deal that he didn't live up to the past two seasons. In 2012 and 2013 combined, Rogers had just three total interceptions and 15 passes defensed. He had six interceptions and 18 passes defensed alone in 2011.

For those wondering, the Bengals looked interested in Rogers back in the 2011 offseason after they lost Johnathan Joseph to the Houston Texans. Perpetuating the weird 49ers/Bengals relationship, the Bengals opted to sign Nate Clements instead of Rogers. The Rogers release saves the 49ers just over $5 million in cap space for 2014.
