Washington Redskins have made inquiries into Bengals Andrew Hawkins

Because the Bengals tendered Hawkins with the lowest tender, NFL teams looking for a wide receiver are looking at him without fear of losing a draft pick to compensation.

The Washington Redskins have made inquiries for Bengals wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, according to Matt Jones with the Washington Post, who cites two sources. Earlier on Monday, John Keim with ESPN's NFL Nation, artfully hinted that Hawkins might be in play for Washington, along with Kenny Britt. This comes after wide-spread speculation that Jay Gruden, former Bengals offensive coordinator and now Redskins head coach, may make a play on Hawkins.

The Redskins aren't the only team connected to Hawkins either. Another report suggested that Hawkins has generated some interest in the New York Jets front office.

Hawkins, who is a restricted free agent, was tendered the lowest salary with original round compensation. That means another team could swoop in and sign Hawkins to a significant offer sheet. If the Bengals would decline to match, they receive nothing and lose a receiver -- then suddenly a need surfaces on the team's roster. The New York Jets have also been mentioned.

After posting a career-year with 51 grabs, 533 yards receiving and four touchdowns in 2012, Hawkins only played eight games in 2013 after dealing with a high ankle sprain -- which largely impacted his overall participation.
