Ravens and Buccaneers could land Panthers WR Steve Smith

The Ravens could try and sign Steve Smith once the Panthers release him.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens could be potential teams to sign or trade for Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith:

The Ravens are expected to emerge as a strong potential landing spot for Carolina Panthers veteran wide receiver Steve Smith should he be released today, according to league sources.

Smith is expected to be cut, barring an unexpected trade developing in the next few hours for the five-time Pro Bowl selection, according to a source.

Besides the Ravens, a source said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are another team that would make a lot of sense for Smith.

Smith is set to be cut, but the Panthers are at least trying to trade him. No one is giving up anything for a 34-year-old receiver set to make $7 million this year. The Panthers have made it pretty clear they're ready to move on from him.

The Ravens make the most sense for Smith. Other than Marlon Brown and Torrey Smith, the Ravens haven't gotten much production from their receivers.

Jacoby Jones is slated to be a free agent, and Smith would be a nice upgrade over him. Look for another WR-needy teams like the New England Patriots to show interest once Smith is released.
