Packers WR James Jones signs with Oakland Raiders

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Spor

Packers free agent James Jones is signing with the Raiders.

The Oakland Raiders haven't had much success at the receiver position since Rich Gannon was throwing passes to Jerry Porter. Even Randy Moss didn't produce in his brief stint with Oakland, and that will continue to be the case until they find a franchise quarterback.

In the meantime, they've added a nice weapon for whoever their QB is net year. The Raiders will sign James Jones from the Green Bay Packers:

As Demovsky said, Jones will be reunited with Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie, who was heavily responsible for drafting him to the Packers.

The 29-year-old free agent, who's spent his entire seven-year career in Green Bay, told ESPN.com on Sunday that he's interested in playing for the Carolina Panthers, but the interest never appeared mutual.

Last season for the Green Bay Packers, Jones caught 54 passes for 817 yards and three touchdowns in helping the team get to the playoffs while QB Aaron Rodgers missed a good portion of the season.

With the Raiders, he'll line up next to Rod Streater and Denarius Moore. That's a good start on offense, but they still have a ton of holes to fill on both sides of the ball.
