Bengals were at Fresno State Pro Day; Don't get hopes up for Derek Carr

Offensive lineman Austin Wentworth is someone to watch for that could provide depth at either guard or tackle for the Bengals.

The Bengals were among the 32 NFL teams in attendance for Fresno State's Pro Day. While quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Davonta Adams are the ones getting all the attention and first-round draft projections, there are several other Bulldog prospects who could fill needs on Cincinnati's roster.

Offensive lineman Austin Wentworth is someone to watch for that could provide depth at either guard or tackle. He didn't receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, but many think he'll still be drafted in the fifth-to-seventh round.

Here's a good scouting report of him made prior to the 2013 college football season by Pro Football Central.

As for his Pro Day, he ran a 5.09 in the 40-time, which would have tied for 10th among offensive linemen at the combine and been third best among the interior linemen. He also did 29 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press and had a vertical jump of 281/2 inches.

Wentworth started every game for the Bulldogs the past two seasons at left tackle, but he projects as a guard in the NFL. He did positional work at both positions.

"I've been practicing at all five positions and I think that's definitely something they noticed because they threw me at tackle and guard today, which is fine; I can play right and left," Wentworth said.

"I'm versatile, and I think a lot of guys this year in the draft are looking for that sixth guy that can rotate on the roster, and hopefully I'm that fit."

Obvously though, Carr was the one who got all of the attention. There have actually been a few mock drafts this offseason that tabbed Carr to the Bengals. It's not happening....unless Andy Dalton threatens to retire....and he's traded to the Raiders for the No. 5 pick....and they draft Jadevevon Clowney.
