Bengals send position coaches to North Carolina Pro Day

Joe Robbins

The Cincinnati Bengals sent a handful of position coaches to check out a tight end and their offensive line.

Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes and an offensive line coach (Paul Alexander or Brian Braswell) recently attended North Carolina's Pro Day, scouting 10 Tar Heels that worked out on Tuesday.

Obviously Hayes is checking out tight end Eric Ebron, who ran a 4.57 shuttle and 7.49 three-cone drill. Ebron's overall Pro Day wasn't particularly consistent, with slower times (compared to his contemporaries) and dropping three passes during position workouts.

Also working out was center Russell Bodine, who benched pressed 225 times 42 times at the NFL Combine last month. Bodine is viewed as the second-best center prospect, according to ESPN who praises his run-blocking.

Quick first step and consistently gains quality initial hat placement. Average-to-slightly above-average inline power base and fires off with proper leverage. Strong upper body and hands. Works to gain quality hand placement. Adequate balance and torque to stay engaged and steer defenders. Average athleticism in space and can struggle in space adjusting on targets.

Offensive tackle James Hurst, who is still recovering from a broken leg, worked out as well.
