Around the NFL: Jim Harbaugh's "act has worn thin" with 49ers

Thearon W. Henderson

The latest NFL news and rumors includes more controversy surrounding the 49ers and their head coach.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 49ers head coach coach Jim Harbaugh's "act has worn thin" inside the team's locker room.

This actually makes sense and coincides with the team being close to a deal that would have shipped Harbaugh to the Cleveland Browns.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens and free agent LT Eugene Monroe are "far apart" in contract negotiations.

Monroe joined the team in October of last year after trading a fourth-round and fifth-round draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire him. As the blindside protector for quarterback Joe Flacco, Monroe is extremely valuable to the Ravens, and losing him would be a big setback.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers are trying to sing free agent CB Sam Shields to a deal worth less than $6 million annually.

It was reported last week that the Packers weren't going to use the franchise tag on Shields, as they intend to let him test the market and see if he can get a better deal than what the Packers are offering. He'll be one of the top cornerbacks available

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain continues to believe the Texans will select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

Unless the team believes Case Keenum is the answer, that's probably the truth. While Jadeveon Clowney is a rare prospect, quarterback is the most important position in football, and the Texans don't have one. The only question is whether they prefer Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles or Teddy Bridgewater.

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com reports that the Dolphins are not expected to place the franchise tag on free agent CB Brent Grimes before Monday's 4PM ET deadline.

Last year, Grimes signed a one-year, $5.4 million contract with the Dolphins, a year after being tagged by the Falcons. Grimes had ruptured an Achilles tendon in Week One of the 2012 season, but bounced back in 2013 and started all 16 games in 2013 and grabbed four interceptions.
