Never really understanding how these picks worked, I am wondering how for sure it is that we will receive a 3rd AND 4th round pick next year for losing Johnson and Collins? I am under the impression that it all depends on how the players preform AFTER they sign with their new team. Although nothing is for sure, it looks like maybe the FO feels pretty good about the odds that both will preform well and warrant high comp picks. I am also under the impression that Cincy must not sign any impact FA (that we're not cut) or else it cancels the comp pick awarded by the loss of either Collins or Johnson.
I think it deserves to be mentioned that this is smart management by the FO. A lot of us were saying...." Sign Talib, Sign McFadden, Sign Byrd", and although any of those signings would improve the team, we already have a pretty solid roster. We have cap space to lock down extensions, we have a good BPA position coming into the draft (maybe not as good as if we would have resigned Collins), and think of next years draft. If we are awarded an additional 3rd AND 4th round picks, the strategy of putting ourselves in the position to get these additions deserves to be praised.....highly praised.
An additional 3rd AND 4th round picks! That's pretty big. I never thought of FA in this way, and it an example of my (and a lot of fans) ignorance when it comes to the FO and their moves (or lack of moves) in the offseason.
