I am very nervous about the AJ Green contract situation. He deserves BIG money, and he is watching others make it elsewhere. I know we have no financial obligation to give him a big time contract right now, and with the option and tag possibility we won't have to pay up until 2016. However, at what point do we realize that by forcing him to play for well under what he's worth we risk making him hate the stripes on his helmet?
We need him, not only as a stud WR that makes defenses cringe, but as a leader and the face of the franchise. I want him to not only love those stripes, but have the desire to get others to love them too. I want his passion for team to surpass even his lofty talents. I want him to be invested 100 percent in winning in Cincy. He is the type of player that can drive a team for an entire career.
I wish the FO would not evaluate this situation purely from a financial perspective. By giving Green some well deserved green, we could get the love of a future hall of famer........and he will deliver more than stats.
