Ravens continue resurgent offseason by signing Owen Daniels

The Ravens are doing their best to make sure they don't miss the playoffs again in 2014, and adding Owen Daniels will help their cause.

The Baltimore Ravens are doing their best to make sure they don't miss the playoffs again in 2014. General manager Ozzie Newsome will do his best to ensure that doesn't happen again in 2014. The Ravens have made it to the playoffs in six of the past eight seasons and nine times since 2000.

Baltimore doesn't stay down long, and Newsome ensures this by bringing in quality veterans like Owen Daniels, who just signed with the team on Thursday, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun:

Daniels, 31, agreed to terms Thursday and is expected to travel to Baltimore as soon as Friday to take a physical and officially sign his contract.

The transaction reunites the two-time Pro Bowl selection with former Texans coach Gary Kubiak, who was hired this offseason as the Ravens' offensive coordinator.

Daniels also will be reunited with Brian Pariani, the same tight ends coach he played for with the Texans.

Daniels was released in March by the Houston Texans because of his $6.25 million salary cap figure. Daniels broke his right leg last October and played in only five games. He had 24 catches for 352 yards and five touchdowns. For his career, the 6-foot-3, 249-pounder has 385 catches for 4,617 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Baltimore already re-signed tight end Dennis Pitta this offseason and added wide receiver Steve Smith after the Carolina Panthers cut him. These aren't players that are going to be the core of this team, but it will make them significantly better in '14 than they were in '13.

This move also ensures TE Ed Dickson won't be back with the Ravens, whom they drafted in the third round in the 201 NFL Draft. This also likely means they won't draft a TE in the first round of this year's draft.

North Carolina's Eric Ebron was a common name being mocked to the Ravens at pick No. 17.
