Jason: Packers take Jimmie Ward, SS, Northern Illinois
While Louisville's Calvin Pryor and Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix are widely regarded as the top safety prospects, Jimmie Ward could end up being the best one to come out of this class. He's physical and wraps-up ball-carriers well enough they he could be a solid strong safety, but he also has the field awareness and overall speed to get from sideline-to-sideline and play free safety.
That kind of versatility makes him an ideal fit for the Packers, who are lacking depth at both S spots, and the oft-injured Morgan Burnett can't be counted on to stay healthy. Ward can come in and start at either S spot and have a positive impact on this team as a rookie.
Anthony: Packers take Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
Green Bay needs help on defense, period. The team could look at the plethora of defensive tackles still left on the board, a linebacker or safety. Still Casey Hayward is their only solid cover man on the outside and with the signings of players on the defensive line in free agency, they need to shore up the back end.
Fuller has good size and length for the position. He still has some of the finer points of the position to work on, but he should be a solid NFL player and will help the Packers out immediately.
Mickey: Packers take Jimmie Ward, SS, Northern Illinois
The Packers would welcome a good safety to anchor the back of their defense to match many other teams in the NFL. Ward is a fast, fluid safety that is very comfortable in man to man coverage. He will not back down from larger opponents and plays bigger than his 6 foot frame. Played very well in the Senior Bowl to show he can compete against quality opponents.
