The Bengals have a lot of up-side coming into the 2014-2015 season. Each of the last three seasons, Cincinnati has gotten one more win than the last season. And the players are getting better after each week.
A.J Green has turned into one of the best Wide Receivers in the game. Vontaze Burfict, who lead the league in tackles last year, is one of the best Linebackers in the league. And we cant forget about our top five rated defense in every major category.
So what do the Bengals need to do to continue with success in 2014?
#1 - The secondary needs to stay healthy. With the pick-up of Dennard, the secondary has a little bit of "Breathing Room". But nobody can deny that the Bengals corners and safeties have been getting up there in age. Lean Hall, Terrence Newman, and Adam Jones are all over the age of thirty.
Leon Hall has been dealing with injuries the past couple of years. Terence Newman only has a couple of years left in the league. Adam hasn't been all that consistent as of recently, and he too has been injury-prone in the past. For the Bengals to make that next step, their secondary needs to be healthy and active.
#2 - The Bengals could also use the help of their No. 1 and 2 wide receivers. I'm not saying they were bad last year, they just need to play at a little bit of a higher level than where they were at last year.
A.J Green will always be the No. 1 WR, but great teams have good wideouts behind their No. 1 guy. Just look at the Broncos. And Green can't drop would-be touchdowns like he did in the playoff-loss to the San Diego Chargers.
#3 - Andy Dalton needs to make smarter decisions. I left the most obvious one for last. Last season, Andy would have three to five great games, then have two or three bad games in a row. The inconsistency was sickening.
The Bengals are very fortunate to have a great defense, because we don't what are record would be otherwise. If Andy got consistent, we could be unstoppable.
