When James Wright was drafted by the Bengals with the 239th pick in the 2014 Draft, most Bengals fans were miffed. They recognized that Wright is a solid special-teamer and has some physical upside and was stuck on the depth chart behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, so he's not all that bad as a prospect. But with clearly better WR's like Tevin Reese available, the selection of Wright was puzzling. Alas, he was drafted and is on our team.
Apparently there are conflicting opinions about James Wright's work ethic. The LSU strength and conditioning coach posted this outside his office at the end of the 2012 season (hat tip to messjunk). Note that there is a second Bengal on this list as well, Sam Montgomery, who is a 2013 Draft bust. Spencer Ware could be considered a 2013 Draft bust too, considering his legal troubles. Johnson and Simon have yet to show anything in the NFL. The rest of the guys are either still with LSU, or neither with LSU nor the NFL.
But this is a tweet by one of Wright's former teammates, Dexter Vaughn, upon learning that Wright was drafted:
Shows you how deep we were at receiver. James Wright was one the hardest working, dedicated WR we had. Would have started anywhere else.— Dexter Vaughn (@AyYoDex27) May 10, 2014
