Timmy Jernigan could have been a first-round selection, but a fail drug test at the NFL scouting combine probably killed any chance of that happening.

Timmy Jernigan's agent is now claiming his client did't test positive for a banned substance when he failed his combine drug test:

Hopefully, this is the case for Jernigan, who should go in the first round based on his potential and production last year.

One of the top defensive tackle prospects in this year's NFL Draft is Florida State's Timmy Jernigan. Viewed by most as a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, Jernigan is projected to go in the first round, possibly as high as 14 to the Dallas Cowboys.

That might no happen now with this report of him failing a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine:

It's not that Jernigan failed a drug test that is such a big deal. It's that he did so at the biggest job interview of his life when he knew he was going to be tested. That displays very poor decision-making and will likely knock him out of the first round.

Jernigan started in all 14 games this past season for the BCS National Champion Seminoles, and he registered 63 tackles (11 for a loss) and 4.5 sacks.

Jernigan was constantly in opponent's backfields in his first year as a full-time stater, and his upside and potential have scouts drooling at what he'll look like as a finished product in the NFL.
