And with the 24th selection of the NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select...

....Somebody who we are NOT expecting them to select.

.

Nobody expected the Dre Kirkpatrick selection (especially with David DeCastro still on the board).

With guys like Daid DeCastro, Muscle Hamster, Riley Reiff, Cordy Glenn, etc... still on the board, CB was not a big expectation - especially not Dre.

And when the Bengals passed on DeCastro a second time (once at #17 and once by trading down), few expected that they'd turn around and draft a different OG at #27.

.

Nobody expected the Tyler Eifert selection (especially with Jermaine Gresham recently drafted and with 2 years remaining on his contract).

Guys who were expected to go in that spot were Eddie Lacy or Jonathan Cyprien or Matt Elam or Alec Ogletree or DeAndre Hopkins.

But we sure weren't expecting another Tight End.

.

Over the last few drafts, the Bengals have made selections that first make us ask:

What did they just do?

But after the reality of the unexpected selection settled in, and we think about it for a bit, we realize:

OK, maybe that wasn't such a crazy move. I get it. Yeah, I kind of maybe even like it.

.

So the moral of the story is, if 2012 and 2013 have told us anything, when 11:11pm rolls around the the Bengals are finally on the clock...

Neither Verrett, Roby, Dennard, Fuller, Shazier, etc... will be donning a new Bengals' cap.
