Are the Bengals any better heading into 2014 than they were in 2013?

The Quarterback situation is unchanged.

Positive that he has another year of experience.

Negative that he has to learn a new offense.

The Running Back situation is slightly improved.

Gio is great. They still have him.

Hill replacing Green-Ellis seems to be an upgrade.

They still don’t have a Fullback who seems to be capable of being a quality NFL starter.

The Wide Receivers are essentially the same.

The top 3 are unchanged: Green, Jones & Sanu.

Positive that Hamilton may get some time as a 4th or 5th WR

Negative that they lost Hawkins

If you assume Hawkins > Hamilton, then it’s perhaps a slight downgrade.

The O-Line is more or less the same.

LT Whit is still there, but a year older.

LG Boling is starting off injured. Pollack is probably an even replacement. Maybe slightly better?

Kyle Cook is replaced by somebody who seems similar

Zeitler & Smith are still on the right side.

They also lost their top backup A Collins.

The D-Line is downgraded

DT is still Peko and Atkins, with Still & Thompson behind them.

Hopefully Atkins stays healthy this year.

DE still has Dunlap & Gilberry, but lost starter M Johnson

If Hunt & Clarke can’t replicate Johnson’s production, then it’s clearly a downgrade

The LB’s are the same

Maualuga is still starting for them. But fortunately, so is Burfict.

Harrison is gone, but he didn’t do a whole lot anyway.

Hopefully Vinnie and Lamur can get some more snaps with Harrison gone. If they play as expected, this could be an upgrade.

Cornerback situation is about the same.

Yes, it’s a positive that Dennard fell to them. And he can be a starter. Big positive there.

But the downside is that the rest of their aging/injury prone CB’s are even older with even more wear & tear.

Safety situation is the same.

Nelson & Iloka are still starting.

Manning probably replaces the need to place that late fall phone call to Crocker?

At the end of the day, there really doesn’t seem to be much as far as the roster goes which implies that the Bengals have made any great improvement (or downgrades) from 2013 to 2014?

Just like the 2013 Bengals to the 2014 Bengals... Can you spot the difference???
