A discussion started in another thread which led into a sub-discussion about Blazing Saddles and some of the other comedic westerns that have been made. I'm a bit of a rabid fan of the genre and have seen many of these films in my lifetime. If you like Westerns or Comedies or both, this might be a way for you to spend a few hours before training camp and preseason starts.
The top film in this genre would have never been made in today's politically correct environment. If you can stomach things that aren't politically correct and you can laugh at yourself and everyone else - Blazing Saddles is a must watch. Keep your children away from the theatrical cut until you've watched Blazing Saddles and decided if you're ok with them seeing something this brash, bold, incorrect, and funny.
The rest of this list is in chronological order. Most of these films are far tamer and more kid appropriate than Blazing Saddles. Although, Rustler's Rhapsody features some drug humor, Manitou's Shoe has some adult themes, A Million Ways to Die in the West is a bit on the grownup side, and The Gunfighter isn't for children either.
