A deep free-agent class of wide receivers could be getting even deep if several established veterans are cut this offseason.
Chicago's Brandon Marshall, Tampa Bay's Vincent Jackson, New York's Percy Harvin and Miami's Mike Wallace are all in line to be asked to take a paycut this offseason, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.
If those four players can't agree to new deals with their respective teams, it's possible that all four players are cut, allowing them to hit the open market this offseason. There's been various reports of all four players potentially being asked to take a pay cut, and ESPN's Rich Cimini expects Harvin to be cut by the Jets eventually.
The Jets have until March 19 to make a decision on the future of Harvin, who has four years and $41.5 million remaining on the contract he signed with the Seattle Seahawks before being traded to the Jets last October, but none of that money is guaranteed. If the Jets elect to move on from Harvin, they will not be on the hook for any dead money.
Wallace is due $9.9 million this season, which includes $3 million guaranteed in March, but he's yet to mesh with Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins offense.
Jackson, who's set to make $9.8 million in 2015, is coming off his fourth straight 1,000-yard season but caught just two touchdown passes, his lowest since his rookie year.
Marshall is coming off an injury-plagued year that saw him catch 61 passes for 721 yards while being set to make $7.5 million next season. That combination along with the coaching and front-office changes in Chicago has led to speculation that the Bears might decide to move in a different direction.
