With training camps opening soon, NFL teams are looking to fill out their rosters to get to the 90-man limit.
Many teams already have 90 players signed, but some either have a few open spots left, or are planning to cut some of their weaker players and replace them with free agents.
One of the best on the market is middle linebacker Brandon Spikes. The talented but troubled Spikes recently pleaded guilty in a hit-and-run crash that injured three people and will serve a year of probation. He'll likely serve an NFL-issued suspension this year, but once he's able to play, he'll be a quality middle linebacker, which most defenses could use.
James Jones is arguably the best wide receiver still on the market. Jones was miscast as the No. 1 receiver for Oakland last season, but still caught 73 passes for 666 yards (yikes) and six scores in 16 games (10 starts), He’s 31-years-old, but still has enough in the tank to be a competent No. 3 or No. 4 receiver.
There's also tight end Jermaine Gresham, who will likely be signing with a team within the next few weeks as Training Camps open. The Saints, Raiders and now Cardinals are interested in the enigmatic tight end.
Other veterans of note include running back Knowshon Moreno, guard Evan Mathis, and receiver Reggie Wayne. Most of the aforementioned guys are or have dealt with injuries that have caused their markets to dry up. In a situation role with the right team, most, if not all of them could make a positive impact for a team next year.
