With NFL training camps now opening, there are still some quality free agents up for grabs.
Guys like Reggie Wayne, Wes Welker and James Jones are waiting to be signed and hoping for another chance to prove their worth in the NFL. Wide receiver may be the deepest position on the free agent market as training camps open and teams, like the Bengals, are searching for another pass-catcher to add to their training camp roster.
James Jones
Of all the free-agent pass-catchers on the market, Jones may be the best of them all. He was a lost cause as the No. 1 receiver for the Raiders last year, but still caught 73 passes for 666 yards and six scores in 16 games. He’s 31-years-old, but still has enough in the tank to be a competent No. 3 or No. 4 receiver.
Brandon Lloyd
Lloyd is likely best deep-threat receiver still on the market. The 33-year-old caught just 14 passes for 294 yards and one touchdown in 2014 on the 49ers. However, that was in a run-heavy offense that featured Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin as the top receiving options when Colin Kaepernick threw the ball. Even with so few catches, Lloyd's 21 yards-per-catch average shows he's still the viable deep threat for any team willing to sign him.
Reggie Wayne
Then there's Wayne, who has amassed an impressive 1,070 receptions for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns during the course of his career. He was limited to 64 receptions for 779 yards and two touchdowns in 2014 with the Colts while dealing with an elbow injury and torn triceps in the second half of the season. If nothing else, Wayne could serve as a mentor for a team with several young receivers while also being the No. 3 or 4 option. At 36-years-old, Wayne probably can't be anything more than that, which explains the little interest he's gotten this offseason.
