2014 Free Agency: Running Back Donald Brown Signs With Chargers

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers helped out their offense by signing former Indianapolis Colts running back, Donald Brown.

The San Diego Chargers experienced a rejuvenation on offense in 2013, largely thanks to the help of offensive coordinator, Ken Whisenhunt. "The Wiz" has gone on to be the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, bit the Chargers don't want to lose that momentum on offense, as evidenced by a signing they made on Tuesday night.

Per multiple sources, the Chargers have signed free agent running back, Donald Brown. A former first round pick, Brown was a bit of a disappointment until last season. Even though the Colts traded for Trent Richardson, Brown led the team in rushing yards and had a great 5.3 yards per carry average. He helped Andrew Luck out in the passing game as well, notching 27 catches.

The deal that Brown received was for three years and $10.5 million--$4 million of it guaranteed. Brown will be splitting time with Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead in 2014. The Chargers like to use their running backs in the passing game, so the move makes sense, though some are criticizing it because of other holes needing to be addressed by the Chargers.
