| 2010 | $470,000 |

Four rookies officially signed
Angelo Craig's agent confirmed with Bengals.com writer, Geoff Hobson, that he has signed his contract. Mark Curnutte writes that Matt Sherry is also officially in the mix -- though Bengals.com doesn't acknowledge that yet -- though Chick Ludwig confirmed it Tuesday.
DT Jason Shirley, TE Matt Sherry, WR Mario Urrutia, DE Angelo Craig have signed four-year deals. Corey Lynch hasn't signed yet, though it's expected he will by the end of the week.
The confusing nature of draft picks with the Bengals, is that there may be an agreement, but the Bengals refuse comment until after the player's signature. Officially four players are in the mix, while six are either awaiting signature or still in negotiations.

Also, "discussions are under way" with Keith Rivers' agent.

Tuesday morning links and notes
Supposedly three of the Bengals draft picks signed contracts. The Bengals aren't confirming until the deals are signed, which is, on par with the Bengals. Ludwig writes that Jason Shirley, Matt Sherry and Mario Urrutia have signed four-year contracts. Since numbers aren't be disclosed yet, and contracts must be signed and submitted before the NFLPA recognizes it, we can't really assume anything.
As noted by readers, charges against Chris Henry are dropped. The NFL is currently reviewing whether or not Henry will be reinstated. Those that complain about the Bengals keeping Henry, are going to be the same ones that question, did the Bengals react too soon? The fact that you had to wait until after the charges were dropped to ponder the question, only solidifies the Bengals made the right choice, with the information presented to them.
Have you noticed NFL.com this morning was renamed to FavreReturning.com.

After cutting two DTs, the position takes form
On Monday, the Bengals cut three players: defensive tackles Titus Adams and Michael Marquardt and cornerback Jerrid Gaines, writes Geoff Hobson.
Defensive tackle is down to four signed players (John Thornton, Domata Peko, Michael Myers and Antwon Burton) and two unsigned drafted picks (Jason Shirley, Pat Sims).
Considering for the past two seasons, the Bengals have held onto eight defensive linemen to start the season (four tackles, four ends), we'd assume that Thornton and Peko stay, Myers and Burton are released and both incumbent starters are backed up by the two rookie defensive tackles.
The interesting dynamic, looking ahead, is that Thornton will be an unrestricted free agent after this season prompting the idea that the Bengals could either re-sign him to a much more cap-friendly deal or draft another defensive tackle in the draft.

Quick hits: What we're looking for in 2008
Let's see, what am I looking for this season? Actually, a lot. I am looking forward to seeing how Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry rebound. I'm looking forward to seeing Chad Johnson pipe down, celebrate a few touchdowns and watch T.J. Houshmandzadeh throw his body away for a cheap two-yard reception on third-and-one. Carson Palmer and every god-like thing associated. I'm looking forward to seeing Stacy Andrews -- who obviously now believes he can have a long successful NFL career and grow as such. I'm looking forward to Pat Sims and Jason Shirley (well, more like praying that we'll see him), our backup wide receivers, the tremendous upside in the secondary and our offense FINALLY incorporating the tight end -- eeee-fect-ively.
Finally, I'm also looking forward to Keith Rivers and Angelo Craig (the only two linebackers drafted during the NFL draft -- any year -- on this roster). And no, I'm not including Brooks; though the argument could be made. I'm specifically speaking about the NFL draft, not the Supplemental. But if you want to include him, you're more than welcome.
Odell Thurman, David Pollack, Caleb Miller, Landon Johnson, A.J. Nicholson, Khalid Abdullah... are all gone. In fact, only the two linebackers drafted, on this team, right now, are Keith Rivers and UC's Angelo Craig.
Daryl Blackstock (signed UFA, 2008)
Ahmad Brooks (supplemental draft, 2006)
Anthony Hoke (signed CFA, 2008)
Dan Howell (signed CFA, 2008)
Rashad Jeanty (signed FA, 2006)
Brandon Johnson (signed FA, 2008)
Dhani Jones (signed FA, 2007)
Jim Maxwell (signed FA, 2007)
Corey Mays (waiver, 2007)
That's all I have to say, really. Just something to munch on. A side note, Rivers now has a Yard Barker blog.

Jason Shirley's postponement request, denied. Trial set for August 27
While we waited for the judge's decision on Jason Shirley's request to postpone his re-trial until after the NFL season, we wondered briefly if Shirley's status as an unsigned rookie (no NFL contract, therefore not an "NFL employee") would fall under punishment within Chancellor Goodell's Personal Conduct Policy.
We assumed that he would, if anything, be punished if found guilty. But we didn't know for sure. So I read the Personal Conduct Policy and found, under the policy section " Persons covered by Policy", Shirley would be subject to discipline which says: "(iii) all rookie players once they are selected in the NFL College Draft."
On Friday, the judge rejected Shirley's plea to postpone his re-trial until after the season setting the date, August 27 -- in truth, postponed from June 25. August 27 is a Wednesday; the Bengals play at Indianapolis the following night. The date is bad in that the trial will likely spill into the team's first game; and more depending on the length of the trial and its outcome.
Training camp breaks on August 15.
You can find all Jason Shirley posts regarding his case, here.

Friday morning links and notes
Jason Shirley's attorney will be in court Friday to learn whether or not his request to postpone the mistrial until after the NFL season will be granted or denied.
Chris Henry is working out with the New Orleans Saints (unofficially).
The general feel from people outside the Browns front office (media, fans), is that they're sad to see LeCharles Bentley go, but understand that it's business (and a mega-contract that the Browns never saw a return on). The PFT guys speculated that Bentley would go to the Vikings (personally, I thought it was a stretch), but the team is staying mum on it. To say that Gonzo doesn't approve of this purely speculative idea, would be an understatement. Why am I referring to Bentley? Well, I still think that there's a minor chance the Bengals might entertain the notion; but a very small chance.
Charlie Collins (former receivers coach for Chad Johnson at Santa Monica Junior College) says of his former player's state of mind: "By the time I'm done this week, it'll be in the right place."
Mark Curnutte's Chad Johnson timeline Thursday.

Jason Shirley, T.J., Levi, Deltha and Kenny Irons (what?) are on the field
Hobson writes that Jason Shirley is on the field while his pending court appearances in Fresno continue Friday -- though we're not sure if he's required to be there to determine if they can postpone the case until after the NFL season. It's a bit surprising, but when you add together the case's status right now, then I don't think anyone sees why he couldn't be there.
But it's Kenny Irons on the field that's drawing the collective gasps of surprise. Not even the team expected him on the field at this point. After suffering a major knee injury last season, Kenny Irons has been all but written off this season. If he's ready to play this year, that will put a major wrench into Chris Perry's future.
Also, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Levi Jones and Deltha O'Neal (players that missed voluntaries) are on the field.
UPDATE: On the long-running, single-piece, updating camp, Hobson made the following note about Irons: "Irons stretched with the team prior (to) practice but did not take part in drills with the running backs."

Jason Shirley's lawyer asks to postpone re-trial
Bengals rookie defensive tackle, Jason Shirley, spent Wednesday in court as his lawyer asked the judge to postpone his re-trial (hit-and-run and drunk driving) until after the NFL season. We're not really sure if the judge will post-pone the case simply because Shirley is not a high-profile NFL (or NBA) player. That's the legal system, man. The judge held any decision and told everyone to return Friday.
